We design journeys across Southern Africa, primarily including Cape Town, the Cape Winelands, the Garden Route, Kruger National Park, Botswana and Victoria Falls.
Is Southern Africa safe?
Yes, Southern Africa is generally safe for tourists, and we prioritise your safety throughout your journey.
What is the weather like in Southern Africa?
The seasons are opposite to the Northern Hemisphere. Summers (Nov–Mar) are warm to hot, while winters (Jun–Aug) are cooler but generally mild. We'll guide you on what to pack for your trip.
What currency is used in Southern Africa?
South Africa – Rands (ZAR); Botswana – Pula & US Dollars; Victoria Falls (Zambia) – Kwacha & US Dollars. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, and ATMs are available. We recommend carrying some cash for small purchases. Major foreign currencies can be exchanged at airports and banks.
What languages are spoken?
South Africa is a diverse nation with 11 official languages, while Setswana is the primary language spoken in Botswana and Tonga is commonly spoken in the Victoria Falls region of Zambia. English, however, is widely spoken throughout all three destinations and is commonly used in tourism, hospitality, and everyday communication.

What is the duration of a journey?
The duration of personal journeys is entirely up to you, as each one is carefully curated according to your requirements. We currently do not offer scheduled group departures.
What is included and excluded in a journey?
Each journey is tailor-made according to your requirements. We include accommodation, transportation and activities as a standard offering. We exclude international flights, visas, travel insurance and à la carte meals (unless included in a package provided by the lodge or hotel).
Do I need to worry about malaria in Southern Africa?
Malaria risk in Southern Africa varies by destination. Areas such as Cape Town, the Cape Winelands, and the Garden Route are malaria-free, while some safari regions, including parts of Kruger National Park, northern Botswana, and Victoria Falls, are considered low to moderate risk depending on the season. We recommend consulting your doctor before travel.
Do I need a visa to visit Southern Africa?
Visa requirements for Southern Africa vary depending on your nationality and the countries you plan to visit. Many nationalities can enter South Africa, Botswana, and Zambia without applying for a visa in advance and are issued a visitor permit on arrival, often valid for up to 30–90 days. We do, however, recommend checking with your local embassy or consulate prior to travel, as visa requirements can differ by passport and destination.
Do I need travel insurance for Southern Africa?
We do require all our guests to have travel insurance for their trip. It ensures you're covered for unexpected situations such as medical needs, trip delays, or lost luggage, allowing you to relax and enjoy your journey fully.
Do you arrange international flights?
We don't book international flights on your behalf, as our focus is on curating every detail of your journey within Southern Africa. Guests usually find it easiest to book their own flights from their home country, and we'll advise you on the best arrival and departure times to match your journey.
Do you work with retreat planners and travel agents?
Yes — Lumé partners with retreat planners, travel agents and boutique travel companies bringing clients to Southern Africa. Do you only design wellness journeys?
Wellness remains at the heart of how we design every journey, but our range extends across four threads: wellness and retreats, women's travel, experiential (culinary and cultural), and adventure. Whatever the focus, each journey carries the same intention and care.
